The 3 central elements, represented by yellow, red and blue, represent our bodies, our minds, and our relationships. Another way this might be described is; biological, psychological, and sociological, or, bio/psycho/social.
Our mental health and wellbeing is very much connected with and influenced by what we do with our bodies, how we manage our own 'mind' state and how we connect with the other important people in our lives. For example, in the self-help exercises where we looked at our emotional needs and our wellbeing, and where we learned about using our breathing and 'mindfulness', we can begin to see how changing our own physiology through breathing, and changing our mental state through a focussing exercise, while letting thoughts drift by, can begin to influence our emotional state. Similarly, as we think about many of our emotional needs we can begin to see how often these are connected up with our relationships with others.
Equally, we are all influenced by the context in which we go about our lives; the wider social circles we may be a part of, the working or learning environments we are involved with, or, perhaps, not currently involved with, the groups we may belong to, the local issues that may be affecting our lives etc.
Furthermore, we are not in isolation from the wider issues of the world we live in. There is no better illustration of this at the moment than the global financial situation where world-wide events are having a major impact on individual countries, cities, towns and villages and their respective communities. These communities, in turn, are made up of individuals.
Collectively, all of these factors have bearings on our emotional health and well-being.
